International Conference "Promoting Energy Efficiency in Public buildings in Uzbekistan"

The joint project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Government of the Republic of Uznekistan "Promoting Energy Efficiency in Public buildings in Uzbekistan" is under completion. The goal of the project is to reduce energy consumption and associated greenhouse gases in new and existing health and education facilities.

The goal of the international conference devoted to the completion of the project is to present major project results and achievements, review capacity and further promoting energy efficient aspects in Uzbekistan as well as recommend international best practices on energy efficiency in civil constructioon.

EEPB project is mentioned as the best practice of the climate change work

Ms. Cihan Sultanoglu, Assistant Secretary-General, Regional Director for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, United Nations Development Programme, was speaking about climate change at St Petersburg Economic Forum last week, where she mentioned in her speech our joint project “Promoting Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in Uzbekistan” and some other projects as the best practice of the climate change work. 

Participation at the seminar on “Support to constructed area, securing ozone and climate”

A joint project of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and the State Committee for Architecture and Construction of Uzbekistan (Gosarchitectstroy) “Promoting Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in Uzbekistan” took part at the seminar on “Support to constructed area, securing ozone and climate”. 

The event was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and gathered experts, engineers, architects and specialists on HVAC.

Examples of energy efficient construction in Uzbekistan: construction of the 5-floor residential building in Andijan city

Technical characteristics of the building:

- Heated area according to the design - 4,922 m2
- Annual energy consumption for heating - 665,761 kWh / year
- Specific annual energy consumption for heating - 135.2 kWh / m2 per year

Examples of energy-efficient construction: design of the building of the Institute of Immunology

The design of the building of the Institute of Immunology at the National Centre for Legal Medicine in Tashkent was completed by "UzTibloyiha".

Welcome to the website of the Projects on Buildings Energy Efficiency in Central Asia and Armenia – BEECA.

This website is the initiative of the GEF/UNDP Projects on Promoting Energy Efficiency in Construction sectors of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The respective Projects were launched in these countries during 2008-2009.

The UNDP/GEF Projects express interests of international community to energy efficiency in buildings since such attention provides for significant advantages in climate change mitigation effect. Countries of Central Asia and Armenia can contribute to achieving international goals in GHG emissions, while improved energy efficiency secures long-term economy of funds, support healthier economy and improve welfare of people.
